🌟 Celebrating the People Who Make Our Schools Work 🌟
Meet Carla Gonzalez - Payroll Clerk, Evergreen School Division
For a little over a year, Carla Gonzalez has been an essential part of Evergreen’s operations team. She first joined the division as the Teacher Substitute Booking and Administrative Assistant at the Board Office before moving into her current role as Payroll Clerk. Today, Carla manages payroll for the division’s 10-month and casual staff, as well as bus drivers — a role that requires precision, care, and a deep commitment to supporting the people who make Evergreen thrive.
Originally from outside Canada, Carla and her family moved here three years ago. “Becoming part of Evergreen has been a meaningful step for me,” she shares. “I’m happy that my kids get to learn here, and that I get to contribute to creating a positive environment for the people who work in the division.”
Though her work happens behind the scenes, its impact is far-reaching. “In payroll, the biggest responsibility is making sure every employee is paid correctly and on time,” Carla explains. “There’s a lot of careful checking and attention to detail. People may not realize how much work goes into each pay, but it’s something we take very seriously.”
As both an employee and a parent of children at Gimli High School, Carla sees Evergreen from two perspectives — and that connection fuels her pride in the division’s mission. “Knowing that my children are receiving a quality education from people who show up every day and give their best reminds me why this work matters,” she says.
What Carla loves most about working in Evergreen is the people. “The human side of things really matters here; people care about each other’s wellbeing,” she explains. “I’ve also been given opportunities to grow professionally, and that has meant a lot to me. It feels good to work in a place where you’re encouraged, supported, and seen.”
Carla also wants the community to recognize the value of public education. “Sometimes people take it for granted,” she reflects. “But it’s not only free — it’s high quality. Public education works because so many people care and put in the effort, from teachers and support staff to those of us working behind the scenes.”
Thank you, Carla, for your dedication, professionalism, and the care you bring to keeping Evergreen’s people supported and our schools running smoothly.
