Meet Justin Berthaudin – Head Mechanic, Evergreen School Division

Since joining Evergreen in 2014, Justin Berthaudin has played a critical role in keeping students safe on the road. Hired initially as a licensed mechanic, Justin took on the role of Head Mechanic in December 2022, bringing years of experience, strong leadership, and a deep commitment to safety to Evergreen’s transportation team.

Justin’s path to this work began after high school, when he spent five years working in a mine before it closed in 2002. That experience led him to enroll in diesel mechanics, where he earned his Red Seal certification in 2005 — a foundation that has served him well throughout his career.

Today, Justin and his team are responsible for maintaining 36 school buses, along with multiple maintenance vehicles across the division. Their work includes oil changes, regular safety inspections, warranty repairs, and responding to service calls and breakdowns. “When we respond to a breakdown or service call, we do so quickly and efficiently,” Justin explains, “always keeping safety as the top priority.”

While much of his work happens behind the scenes, its impact is felt every day by students, families, and staff. Safe, reliable transportation depends on the careful, consistent work done in the shop — long before a bus ever leaves the yard.

What Justin enjoys most about his role is the collaboration. “I like being able to interact with a variety of different roles — bus drivers, transportation staff, maintenance workers,” he says. That teamwork ensures the system runs smoothly and students get where they need to go safely, day after day.

Thank you, Justin, for your expertise, leadership, and dedication to student safety. Evergreen’s transportation system runs stronger because of the work you and your team do every single day.
