Board Meeting Highlights | September 22

Evergreen trustees took time to reflect on some of the exciting learning and growth happening across the division.

🎓 Trustee Yorga shared appreciation for the recent presentation by Tom Sherrington, noting how effective it was to have trustees participate in a "turn and talk" and experience “cold calling” firsthand. The interactive approach helped demonstrate some of the evidence-informed teaching practices being used in Evergreen classrooms.

🌱 Trustee Auer recognized the work of the Superintendent and administrative team on the new teacher evaluation administrative procedures, highlighting the focus on professional growth and improvement. She also expressed excitement about the increasing number of teachers and professionals participating in leadership development and other learning opportunities, noting the high level of engagement and enthusiasm across the division. Trustee Auer also thanked the Operations Team for their hard work over the summer months, preparing schools and ensuring students and staff were welcomed back to safe, well-maintained learning environments in September.

🤝 Trustee Helgason spoke about the importance of ensuring all students are actively engaged in their learning. She highlighted the value of classrooms where there is an expectation of 100% participation and a shared knowledge base, allowing every student to contribute. She noted that this represents inclusion at its best, where all learners are empowered to participate and succeed.

Together, these reflections highlight Evergreen's ongoing commitment to high-quality teaching, professional learning, student engagement, and inclusive learning environments.
