Board Highlights: April 28
At our April 28 meeting, trustees heard inspiring presentations from Randy Semenek (Riverton Early Middle School) and some of Evergreen’s Student Services team, highlighting literacy growth, peer‑to‑peer coaching, and collaborative supports for students and families.
Trustee Auer shared reflections from the municipal breakfast, noting that community leaders are excited about Evergreen’s projects and proud of the division’s accomplishments. Additionally, a brief interaction with a Grade 1 student reinforced the impact of our literacy work: “Of course I can read that — I’m in Grade 1!” That confidence, Auer noted, speaks volumes about the strength of Evergreen classrooms.
Trustee Kohler highlighted the presentations, and the strong progress Evergreen continues to make in literacy programming across schools.
Trustee Helgason viewed the work through an advocacy lens, sharing that the Student Services team inspires confidence in families. The strong collaboration among clinicians mirrors the board’s collective work and supports students in learning to advocate for themselves and their communities.
Trustee Mosher praised the peer‑to‑peer coaching highlighted at REMS, calling it “fantastic professional development” that builds trust, teamwork, and instructional improvement.
Trustee Davies emphasized the importance of building trust with families and appreciated the Student Services team’s focus on effective communication strategies that benefit everyone.
Overall, trustees reflected on a shared theme throughout the meeting: trust — among teachers, colleagues, families, and students — and the powerful progress that follows when vulnerability and collaboration are embraced.
