🌟 Highlights from Evergreen’s First Board Meeting of the Year 🌟

On Tuesday, September 9th, the Evergreen School Division Board of Trustees gathered for their first meeting of the school year — and there was much to celebrate!

💬 Trustee Jillian Yorga shared her appreciation for all the work that happens in Evergreen over the summer. From school construction and reconfigurations to the behind-the-scenes preparation of the Continuous Improvement Report (coming in November), she expressed gratitude for the staff who worked so hard to set schools up for success.

💬 Trustee Jillian Yorga also celebrated Evergreen’s impressive Grade 3 reading results — 77.68% of students at benchmark! These strong results reflect the hard work of teachers, principals, and students, and show the power of evidence-based literacy practices.

💬 Trustee Dianna Auer highlighted the resolution on structured literacy passed at the Manitoba School Boards Association annual general meeting — a resolution Evergreen first introduced last year. This resolution will encourage faculties of education to offer courses in evidence-based structured literacy for pre-service teachers. She also emphasized the importance of instructional leadership: when principals are equipped to lead learning, teachers are better supported in delivering the instruction that helps students thrive.

💬 Trustee Penny Helgason reflected on the successful open houses held before the first day of school, sharing her excitement about seeing Evergreen’s Education Plan come to life in classrooms this year.

👏 A special congratulations to Sandra Davies on being voted in as Chair of the Board and to Jillian Yorga on being voted in as Vice Chair for the 2025–2026 school year!

The Board is proud of the hard work happening in every school and remains committed to Evergreen’s core priorities: literacy, numeracy, Indigenous education, student well-being, and instructional leadership.
