🌿 Trustee Spotlight: Sandra Davies – Ward 1, Board Chair
Trustee Sandra Davies has served on the Evergreen School Division Board for 16 years and is currently in her 4th term as trustee and Chair of the Board. A confident and courageous leader, Sandra brings clarity and experience to her role — grounded in her long-standing commitment to young people and public education.
“Even though my own children have graduated, I remain committed to the students in our division. I want to see youth supported, challenged, and inspired to pursue their dreams.”
Sandra is proud of Evergreen’s governance model, which keeps the board focused on high-level decision-making, informed by community voice and expert advice. Under Sandra’s leadership, the Board has remained focused on student-centered decisions, including the introduction of full-day kindergarten, increased investments in literacy and arts education, and a renewed focus on student achievement and equity. She values the opportunity to support these changes through strong planning, accountability, and trust in the expertise of Evergreen’s staff. For Sandra, pride doesn’t rest on one initiative — it’s about the collective effort that drives student success across the division:
“There aren’t one or two accomplishments I would consider myself proud of. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together — full-day kindergarten, enhanced literacy structures, vibrant arts programs, and expanded opportunities for students to grow and express themselves. Watching those efforts come to life for the benefit of all students, staff, and families is what truly matters.”
One of Sandra’s most meaningful memories each year is the staff celebration, where she has the honour of recognizing long-serving employees and retirees.
“It’s a chance to thank the people who have dedicated their careers to students. Their work is the foundation of everything we do.”
Sandra is proud of her Icelandic and Métis heritage, and her connection to the land and people of this region runs generations deep. From an early age, she committed herself to service: at just 13 years old, she began working at Gull Harbour Resort, where she stayed for 20 years. Today, she serves as Park Manager for Hecla-Grindstone Provincial Park, where her leadership continues to shape the place she calls home.
Sandra brings that same sense of responsibility and care to her work in Evergreen — ensuring that every decision made at the board table reflects the division’s priorities and the values of the communities it serves.
