About Us

skystorm.de0c5d975.jpegSSES is a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 4 school.   There are 271 students registered this year with a staff of 37. Our support staff consists of a school secretary, a library clerk, eight educational assistants, a head caretaker, and a custodian.  We have a part time guidance counselor and share a divisional speech pathologist and psychologist.  Our school appreciates the  strong support we receive from our parent advisory committee as well as our parents/guardians/caregivers and community.  Our school is highly collaborative and we embrace strong community connections as well as partnerships with other schools and community organizations. Be sure to check out our LifeatSSES blog and Twitter which will highlight some of the many engaging  learning  experiences and successes we have celebrated this year!

Our school strives diligently to ensure that every student demonstrates growth of our foundational literacies such as Reading, Writing, and Math. Our nature focus helps to ensure that students develop these critical skills while being engaged in authentic, engaging, and relevant learning experiences. Our strong connection to nature helps our students to be healthy physically, mentally, and socially, as there is strong research that supports the benefits of outdoor play and learning. Our school believes in the importance of helping children develop contemporary learning competencies (6 C's~creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, citizenship, character and communication) which are embedded into our every day learning in our multi-age learning environments. Developing these skills ensures that our students will experience success in whatever goals they pursue in their lives and increase their ability to live a high quality of life. We are extremely proud of our beautiful SSES Community Natural Playground and are very appreciative of the support we have received to make this dream become a reality. Be sure to check out our learning journey and celebrations on our Twitter feed (@LifeatSSES) and our LifeatSSES blog!  Together we are better!!

You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.
