Programs & Services
The homeroom teacher teaches the regular academic programs in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. We do have specialized teachers in the areas of Music and Physical Education/Health.
Music Program
AEMS offers a general music program in Grades K-6, which includes a strong emphasis on movement, percussion (Orff) and creativity as well as the basics of music.
Physical Education Program
Our program follows the Manitoba Curriculum and emphasizes movement, basic skills in a variety of sports (in Middle Years), as well as the importance given to participation by all, good sportsmanship and the appreciation of well-being. Intramural sports are offered for the Middle Years during noon hour. These teams may also take part in competition with schools within the Evergreen School Division and other neighboring schools. In winter, a curling program is offered for grade 4+ students. In addition, our school offers Track and Field days and hosts the Divisional Track meet in June of every year for the Middle Years students.
Student Services Program
Student Services Teachers in the school provide help to the classroom teachers. The student services program plays a key role in identifying and supporting programming for children with special learning needs. Presently there are many students monitored by the student services program. The student services teacher also supports classrooms on topics such as bullying, anger management, peer pressure, character education and many other topics on getting along with others. Individual support may occur on the side as the need arises. The Physical Education Teacher also provides support with these topics during Health classes.
Literacy Interventions
Students are assessed at three different points (Beginning/Middle/End of Year) using universal screening tools to help determine next steps for reading and spelling instruction. A school-wide “Walk to Read” model is implemented, allowing all K-6 students to be placed in “just-right” instructional groups tailored to their specific learning needs. Students walk to their respective groups for 30 minutes/day. This approach supports targeted growth in both reading and spelling. Additionally, students requiring further support participate in small-group intervention sessions to address specific skill needs and strengthen their overall literacy development.
Student Support Services
Our schools have the support of a Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, and Educational Psychologist that collaboratively work with teachers and parents in providing essential supports to our student population.
