Strong Beginnings - Now What?
Well another year of Strong Beginnings has come and gone and what of it?. Well think of these two days as a "triage" such as you might see at a hospital. It's a process of gathering information on each student to help direct instructional decisions for that student - and the class, for the school year. The day to day demands and routines of the teacher and their instruction are fast paced and as a result student needs can be hidden or overlooked, especially if the student is quiet. Strong Beginnings ensures every student will get some individual attention from their teacher at the beginning of the year, during which they will be individually assessed, and their academic strengths and challenges will be identified. It also allows for some personal time together to get to know each other and build a comfort level upon which hopefully they can build a good working relationships.
Once Strong Beginning is over the work just begins for your child! Meetings between your child's teacher, myself, and our student services team occur soon after, during which we will discuss your child and decide what their instructional needs/goals will be for the year and in some cases what additional supports and instruction they might require. The "triage" of Strong Beginnings is not forgotten but provides a foundation for further services for your child. Like any hospital we want to provide the best care possible.
