WHO ARE WE?
A volunteer group of parents/guardians/community members that meet monthly with GHS Administration and a representative from the Evergreen School Board of Trustees.
WHAT IS OUR ROLE?
To share information, discuss concerns and provide feedback on matters that pertain to the school.
WHAT IS OUR GOAL?
To contribute to the overall vision and mission of the GHS and to enhance the education of students.
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
Meetings are open to all parents/guardians/community members. The Annual General Meeting is held in October. Meetings provide information about what is happening at the school and usually last one hour.
WHAT HAVE WE ACCOMPLISHED?
Breakfast/Nutrition Program – Initiated in 2009 with financial assistance from community service organizations, community members and businesses. Funds have been used to provide fresh fruit, chocolate milk and healthy snacks for all GHS students. Cafeteria equipment has been purchased by the program to help offer healthier food options. GHS Student Council winter break pancake breakfast, Spirit Week BBQ and Grade 9 Healthy Breakfast Table initiative have also been sponsored through this program.
Canteens at GHS Sports Tournaments – Starting in 2009, canteen services have been offered at weekend sports tournaments with the support of parent and student volunteers. Funds raised have been used to purchase new uniforms for sports teams as well as equipment for the Physical Education Department.
Technology Investment – In 2011, through a grant from Westshore Community Foundation Inc., two Smartboard systems were purchased for installation in GHS classrooms.
GHSAC Constitution – An extensive review of the existing constitution was completed with recommendations for various amendments and updates. The revised constitution was approved at the Annual General Meeting in October 2012.
