SSES is a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 4 school. There are 272 students registered this year with a staff of 27. Our support staff consists of a school secretary, a library clerk, five educational assistants, a head caretaker, and a custodian. We have a part time guidance counselor and share a divisional speech pathologist and psychologist. Our school appreciates the strong support we receive from our parent advisory committee as well as our parents/guardians/caregivers and community. Our school is highly collaborative and we embrace strong community connections as well as partnerships with other schools and community organizations. Be sure to check out our LifeatSSES blog and Twitter which will highlight some of the many engaging learning experiences and successes we have celebrated this year!
Making learning visible by documenting our thinking is continuing to be a focus at SSES this year. Students record their thinking by sketching, sharing their ideas, demonstrating to others, and recording using the iPads and cameras. The 6 C's~creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, citizenship, character and communication are embedded into our every day learning in our multi-age learning environments. We continue to strive towards our goal of reconnecting students to nature and plans are in place to begin our natural playground project.
